Did you know there are wheelchairs that fold differently than the standard wheelchair? I’d like to get your attention on different types of a folding wheelchair that are used by people who have limited use of their arms so they are not able to propel themselves in the standard wheelchair. One is for the individual who wants to be independent to go places without being pushed by another person and the other individual needs to have or would rather have a caregiver to push them in a wheelchair.
Both of these individuals like to travel and want to bring their wheelchair with them on airlines, trains, cruises, or automobile road trips. Both of these individuals are able to take a few steps in order to transfer from the wheelchair but they normally depend on it everywhere they go. So I hope I have your curiosity up as to what two totally different types of a folding wheelchair I’m writing about?
Let me tell you about them;
Two Types of Folding Wheelchairs
Drive Medical Super Light, Folding Transport Chair
This Super Light Folding Transport Chair weighs only 19 pounds and one of the lightest wheelchairs on the market with its silver aluminium frame and maintenance free composite wheels. It folds differently than the standard wheelchair that will fold in from the sides.
The Super Light is designed to fold forward like a conventional folding chair or a baby stroller and has a carry bag that it will fit into for easy storage or travel. Folding it is fast and easy by simply putting the armrests up, the footrest down, and pulling the loop toward you that is under the seat. It comes with padded flip back arms so you can choose to use them in the down position or not. The fold down footrests can be down to rest your feet while being pushed or put up for you to be able to move around without being pushed. This wheelchair is ideal for anyone who likes to scoot around at home on their own and if wanted, the armrests and footrest can be removed for more freedom.
The Super Light Folding Transport’s rear wheels have locks to ensure safety and can be conveniently reached by the user when needing them. The overall frame is 37 inches high by 30 inches long by 23 inches wide with the folded size being only 19 inches by 28 inches by 22 inches. It also includes a carry bag with a shoulder strap for easy travel. The Super Light Folding Transport chair has a weight capacity of 250 pounds with the seat to floor height being 20 inches, the seat dimensions of 18 inches wide by 16 inches deep, and the back of the chair height and the distance from the end of the seat to the footrest of 17 inches.

Paying for Different Types of Folding Wheelchairs
With regard to the Drive Medical Transport Chair, the easiest way to purchase it is to just buy one from a medical equipment store or online since it has a low price. However, not everyone is in the position to pay the full cost of even a low-cost wheelchair and certainly not of the high-end power wheelchairs. If you want to go through your insurance, beware that they may have you jumping through a lot of hoops of approval for the high-end power wheelchair. It all depends on what the rules are so you need to call your insurance company to find that out first.
If you have Medicare and no other insurance, you will need your doctor to approve the wheelchair and your doctor will need to declare that you are not strong enough in your arms to propel a wheelchair or else they will not approve your claim. You usually need to pay 20 percent of the cost. The sooner you ask your doctor the better since we don’t know how the rules for Medicare could change by next year. You can read more about the necessary steps at Medicare.gov.
The two wheelchairs are both popular even though they are at each end of the spectrum of folding wheelchairs. Both have high ratings with the Drive Medical Transport Chair has 4.4 out of 5 stars and several reviews that were 5 stars because of how happy they were to find such a lightweight easy to fold transport chair. The EZ Lite Cruiser has 4 out of 5 stars and several reviews that were 5 stars due to how pleased they were to have the freedom to move around without the aid of someone pushing them. Each may be totally different types of a folding wheelchair but bring different services for those who need them desperately.
